Las Vegas Tipping

If you’re taking a trip to Las Vegas, you're probably wondering how much to tip the people you encounter. Showing some monetary appreciation never hurts and you may find you receive better service or even a few extra perks along the way.

Many people don’t carry much cash on them on a regular basis, so be prepared to tip by having a good supply of $1s, $5s, and a few $20s. Establish a baseline for tipping certain people, but feel free to bump the tip up if you’ve made a special request or receive exceptional service. Las Vegas is a tourism-based town, so don’t be afraid you’ll insult anyone by offering a tip. Most workers depend on them for a portion of their income.

The following guide to tipping in Vegas will help you know how much – and for whom – to leave a little extra cash:

Valets: Tip around $5. You can divide the amount, giving some when your driver takes your car and when he or she retrieves it, or give the entire amount when your car is returned to you.

Bellhops: Tip $1 per bag if you have five or fewer and $2 per bag if you have six or more.

Shuttle drivers: Tip the driver $2 per person in your group.

Taxi drivers: Tip 15 to 20 percent of the fare.

Maid service: Leave $3 to $5 per day or more if you leave a big mess.

Restaurant servers: A tip of 15 to 20 percent of the pre-tax bill is recommended, depending on the level of service you received.

At a buffet: $1 per person at your table for the employee clearing your plates is appropriate.

Table host and cocktail girls at a nightclub: Tip a minimum of 20 percent when reserving a table or ordering bottle service.

Dealers: Tip $1 to $2 when you sit down and $5 for every $30 you win from the hands they deal.

Cocktail servers: Tip your server $1 to $2 per drink.

Usher or theater attendant: If they give you upgraded seats, tip anywhere from $20 to $100. Extremely popular shows warrant a tip on the higher end of the scale.
