Nevada's Paths Less Traveled - It's Capital, Carson City

Let's head north out of the hustle, bustle and neon lights of Las Vegas to Nevada's capital, Carson City. Just south of Reno and east of Lake Tahoe we knew it would be a long drive nearly 429 miles, but we could only imagine what an incredibly scenic drive it would be.

So let us start with a bit of history. Carson City was named after the Carson River in 1860. Then the Nevada Territory was formed and Carson City became it's capital. Finally in 1864 Nevada was granted their statehood. Another bit of history trivia is that it was the site for the largest silver strike in world history, so called the Comstock Lode!

Carson City sits in one of the most scenic areas in the country and the historical attractions are a history buffs dream. Museums guiding us through history, historical buildings and the famous Kit Carson walking trail through the residential area, featuring more than 60 historical landmarks keep visitors coming back for more.

If history isn't your thing there is still a bit of gaming, but on a much smaller scale or if shopping is your poison check out the many unique stores and true mecca for the antique-hunter. Maybe a trip to Lake Tahoe,Reno or a trip back in time experiencing the Old West flavor of Virginia City. All of this within a 35 minute drive from Carson City.

Are you a movie buff? Carson City and it's surrounding areas have been featured in many films such as;

Deathwatch (1966) - starred Lenard Nimoy

The Shootist (1976) - John Wayne's last movie

Honkytonk Man (1982)and Pink Cadillac (1989) - both starred Clint Eastwood

Misery (1990) - starred James Caan and Kathy Bates

Cobb (1994) - starred Tommy Lee Jones,portraying Hall of Famer Ty Cobb
just to name a few.

So wherever your travels take you make Nevada your first stop.The Silver State is filled with sightseeing gems. UNFORGETTABLE!

Until Next Time...
